MCC rolls in home opener
ROCHESTER - The MCC men's soccer team picked up an impressive win in its home opener, topping CCBC-Catonsville 2-0 on John L. DiMarco Field Sunday afternoon.
The Tribunes moved to 2-1 on the season.
Monroe controlled the tempo for much of the game, outshooting the Cardinals 18-7 on the match. The Tribunes had a handful of quality scoring chances early, but didn't break through until the 40th minute.
Steven Mounnarat (Penfield, NY/Penfield) played a perfect ball to Harry Newton (Benfleet, England/Appleton), and the sophomore forward found the back of the net to give MCC a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Tribunes added some insurance with a goal by Cody Winter (North Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) in the 74th minute. Mounnarat assisted on that score as well.
Samuel Torrelli (Akron, NY/Akron) and Eddie Bower (Holley, NY/Holley) combined to make seven saves for the shutout in goal for Monroe.
