Deferral of Tuition Payment

Normally, applicants for VA Educational benefits will not receive their first payments until at least 8-10 weeks after initial application/certification request. For those students who will incur a financial hardship due to this situation, the Veteran's Office can issue a deferral request on the applicant's behalf to delay billing of tuition and fees for up to three months. The amount of money that can be deferred is equal to the sum of the student's benefit checks for the entire semester. Thus, if the student is receiving benefit checks of $800 per month while attending classes, then he/she can have up to 4 x $800 or a maximum of $3200 deferred.
