SLN ANGEL workshops are offered at both the Brighton and Damon Campuses.

SLN ANGEL Workshop Topics (Redesigned in Spring 2012) (for new online faculty)

MCC Instructional Design staff recommends the following:

  1. Instructors interested in web-enhancing a course by posting course materials, handouts, links, and homework assignments; communicating, and creating a manual gradebook are required to take Workshops A-B. (Workshops C and D are optional)

  2. Instructors interested in developing and teaching a fully online (SLN) course or a hybrid course are required to take Workshops A-D.

  3. Instructors with previous online teaching experience at another institution should contact the Office of Online Learning to determine appropriate training needs.

Workshop A – Fundamentals of Online Learning
This workshop serves as a general orientation and introduction to online learning. It provides an overview of various models, campus policies, basic design principles, and provides a tour of the online learning environment.

Workshop B – Creating Content
This hands-on workshop focuses on how to create various types of content in online courses. Participants learn how to upload/create a course syllabus, add various types of information, link to outside resources, and create a manual gradebook..

Workshop C – Adding Interactive Content
This hands-on workshop trains participants in the pedagogy and tools associated with student-student and student-professor interaction. Topics covered include: role of discussion in online courses, small-group interaction, creating quizzes and/or providing for online submission of papers and other assignments.

Workshop D – Course Management
This hands-on workshop addresses pedagogical issues of evaluation vs. assessment, providing feedback, and grading student work in an online course. Participants will work directly with tools that support assessment.  Topics include:  interactive gradebook, managing discussions, grading assignments, and providing feedback.
