Official discussion and requests about developing or teaching courses online, should begin at the departmental level.
If you wish to have a casual discussion or ask general questions about online teaching many resources are available:
Policies and procedures are in place for the proposal of new SLN or hybrid courses. Forms are currently available on the M Drive:
M:/MCC/Forms/Curriculum/SLN Online Course Submission.doc
The SLN and hybrid forms are in the Curriculum & Program Development Database. This allows the proposal process to be completed online via the website. Review, approval and notification is managed by the Curriculum Office.
Once a new course has been approved for development faculty will attend training workshops to assist them with the pedagogy and technology required to develop and present an online course. Additionally faculty will meet regularly with their assigned MID (Multimedia Instructional Designer) to develop their course.
In cases where a “new to online teaching” faculty member “takes over” an existing course, they will follow the same training program as for a new course, i.e. attending training workshops to assist them with the pedagogy and technology required to develop and present an online course, as well as meeting regularly with their assigned MID (Multimedia Instructional Designer) to develop/revise their course.
A time line with target dates and critical benchmarks is published at the beginning of each training cycle.
