Area Performers Celebrate Chinese Culture (03/02/2010)
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – March 2, 2010 – Swords, chopsticks and chairs become part of a dance performance when area students and community members take the stage during “China Night” at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Monroe Community College, 1000 E. Henrietta Road, in the MCC Theatre (Building 4).
Presented by MCC’s Chinese Cultural Club, the evening will include traditional Chinese music, a martial arts demonstration and a fashion show. Audience members will also enjoy a sword dance displaying heroic and elegant elements; a lively tambourine dance symbolizing happiness; and a ribbon dance representing joy and unity through the flowing movements and bright colors. Students from MCC and SUNY Geneseo will share the stage with Phoenix Dance Studio and Families with Children from China, both based in Rochester.
The event strives to increase understanding and appreciation of Chinese arts and traditions. Tickets for the event are $5 for the general public and $2 for MCC students and staff.
