US Census information

Attention Students:

A message from the US Census Bureau-The 2010 Census is coming, and your community needs your participation!

What is the census?

The U.S. Census counts everyone residing in the United States and Puerto Rico, and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years. A census questionnaire will be delivered to every residential address in March 2010 and to on-campus housing in April and May 2010. When you receive yours, answer the 10 short questions (7 questions for students living on campus) and return your completed form. People should be counted where they live and sleep most of the year, so if you live at school on April 1, 2010, that is where you should be counted.

Why is it important?

Census information affects the number of seats your state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives. Census data also help distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for services in your community like public transportation, campus safety, scholarship programs, and much more! And people from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, conduct important research, and decide where to locate schools and businesses.
